Venice Ale House, Venice Beach, California

My go-to spot for people and sunset watching in California is the Venice Ale House in Venice Beach.  I think I’ve been to this oceanfront restaurant every time I’ve visited LA – definitely a favorite of mine!  This small beach bar serves a variety of local and craft beers, including surfboard samplers – yes, beer flights delivered to you on a rolling skateboard in an awesome location – right on the ocean in the heart of Venice.  The staff is always very kind and generous and have great recommendations for their beer based on your preferences.  Ask specifically for their specialty half and half mix with their orange wheat beer.

I had their food, which is also from local farms and growers, for the first time this past visit.  My friend got a burger and I got their lamb burger.  It was delicious, but I wasn’t impressed with the sides of greens and potatoes – could have used fries.

The people watching is always impeccable.  Since it is right in Venice, I can’t even describe the variety of people you see.  One time, me and my friend saw a tree person in the window.  That’s right, a tree person! Ha.

The best part of the ambiance is watching the sun go down.  We are so lucky to have these amazing places right at our fingertips!  I’ve heard that you should always have a green flash when the sun goes down because the sun is supposed to have a green flash.  They don’t serve this beer (as of last time I was there), but they’ll give you something similar so you can pretend!
